Ramshorn Snails Have Arrived

Back in July we told you they were on the way. Ramshorn Snails are now live on the store — UK bred, mineral supported, and ready to join your feeding rotation.

Why We Added Them

Bladder Snails and Malaysian Trumpet Snails sit at opposite ends of the shell spectrum — one soft and easy, the other dense and demanding. Ramshorns fill the gap in between. Their flat, coiled shell gives predators something different to work through, which means more variety in a rotation without jumping straight to the hardest option.

They're active, visible and quick to trigger a hunting response — a good fit for keepers who want their fish working for their food.

Fact File

Family Planorbidae — freshwater snails named for their flat, ram's-horn coil
Shell Coiled flat in a single plane — resistance sits between Bladder Snails and MTS
Diet Algae, biofilm, detritus and leftover food
Breeding Hermaphrodites that lay small clutches of eggs in clear jelly
Odd One Out Unlike most snails, Ramshorns carry haemoglobin in their blood — the same oxygen-carrying pigment found in ours
Suited To Puffers, loaches, cichlids, assassin snails and freshwater crabs

For puffer keepers, a rotation that moves between Bladder, Ramshorn and MTS shells gives the beak a range of textures to work through rather than one repeated resistance.
